Historical Origin And Design Inspiration

The American Bison (Bison bison) is a North American species of bison, also commonly known as the American buffalo. "Buffalo" is somewhat of a misnomer for this animal, as it is only distantly related to either of the two "true buffaloes", the Asian buffalo (or "water buffalo") and the African buffalo. However, "bison" is a Greek word meaning ox-like animal, while "buffalo" originated with the French fur trappers who called these massive beasts boeufs, meaning ox or bullock. So both names, "bison" and "buffalo," have a similar meaning. The American Bison is more closely related to the Wisent or European Buffalo.


The bison once inhabited the grasslands of North America and Asia in massive herds, ranging from the Great Slave Lake in Canada's far north, through the United States to Mexico in the south, and from eastern Oregon almost to the Atlantic Ocean, taking its subspecies into account. Its two subspecies are the Plains Bison (Bison bison bison), distinguished by its smaller size and more rounded hump, and the Wood Bison (Bison bison athabascae), distinguished by its larger size and taller square hump. Wood Bison are one of the largest species of cattle in the world, surpassed in size only by the massive Asian gaur and Wild Asian Water Buffalo, both of which are found mainly in India and Southeast Asia. It is also the largest extant land animal in North America.


An American Bison near a hot spring or fumarole in Yellowstone National Park A bison has a shaggy, dark brown winter coat, and a lighter weight, lighter brown summer coat. Bison can reach up to 2 meters (6.6 ft) tall, 3 meters (10 ft) long, and weigh 400 kilograms (882 lb) to 1,000 kilograms (2,205 lb). The biggest specimens on record have weighed as much as 1,133 kilograms (2,500 lb). The heads and forequarters are massive, and both sexes have short, curved horns, which they use in fighting for status within the herd and for defense.


Bison are herbivores, grazing on the grasses and sedges of the North American prairies. They eat in the morning and evening, and rest during the day. Bison mate in August and September; gestation is 285 days. A single reddish-brown calf is born the following spring, and it nurses for a year. Hand Ston Smithed From Solid Flag Stone From trible Grounds, Coppersmith Lamp Shade quarried from the cliffs of the great Navajo nation, this solid flagstone lamp is a handmade, one of a kind piece of H J Nick original art. Many of the stone pieces still show remnants of petroclifs that were left there thousands of years ago by the Navajo peoples ancestors the Anasazi and Pueblo Indians. The base is created in natural shape of the native mountains in this Arizona region and also displays the Hand forged arrow clean through.


This lamp is adorned with genuine gemstone turquoise, feathers and genuine rawhide, and is topped with a shade made of anvil forged, hand hammered real copper. This copper is solid, and has been sealed after the natural oxidation process became a blue patina.

Genuine Raw Hide Light Diffuser Is Removable, turn bottom nob The hand forged steel frame is made from 1/4'' thick round patina finished steel. Each section of genuine rawhide is selected from the best tanned hides available in America. We use only hides that are properly tanned by one of America's best know tanneries established 1864. Each piece is selected for it's translucence as well as grain compatibility. Each diffuser panel is meticulously hand punched to accept the leather lacing used to attach each panel to the hand forged steel frame. It is then hand laced together with the longest lengths of leather possible, producing the least amount of knots. Each panel is also laced in a manor allowing for temperature changes as well as air moisture content. A simple annual spray on leather treatment is recommended.


Main Steel Structure: Hand forged, hammer struck to shape using 1/2" solid steel. Main wire trace is 1/4" heavy walled structural steel. Main wire hide cap and mount is hand forged steel with chain through that allows for 900 pound test chain to mount securely directly to your structural beam. The wire hide is designed to mount any standard electrical light receptacle includes two decorative mounting screws. Historical Origin And Design Inspiration

The American Bison (Bison bison) is a North American species of bison, also commonly known as the American buffalo. "Buffalo" is somewhat of a misnomer for this animal, as it is only distantly related to either of the two "true buffaloes", the Asian buffalo (or "water buffalo") and the African buffalo. However, "bison" is a Greek word meaning ox-like animal, while "buffalo" originated with the French fur trappers who called these massive beasts boeufs, meaning ox or bullock. So both names, "bison" and "buffalo," have a similar meaning. The American Bison is more closely related to the Wisent or European Buffalo.


The bison once inhabited the grasslands of North America and Asia in massive herds, ranging from the Great Slave Lake in Canada's far north, through the United States to Mexico in the south, and from eastern Oregon almost to the Atlantic Ocean, taking its subspecies into account. Its two subspecies are the Plains Bison (Bison bison bison), distinguished by its smaller size and more rounded hump, and the Wood Bison (Bison bison athabascae), distinguished by its larger size and taller square hump. Wood Bison are one of the largest species of cattle in the world, surpassed in size only by the massive Asian gaur and Wild Asian Water Buffalo, both of which are found mainly in India and Southeast Asia. It is also the largest extant land animal in North America.


An American Bison near a hot spring or fumarole in Yellowstone National Park A bison has a shaggy, dark brown winter coat, and a lighter weight, lighter brown summer coat. Bison can reach up to 2 meters (6.6 ft) tall, 3 meters (10 ft) long, and weigh 400 kilograms (882 lb) to 1,000 kilograms (2,205 lb). The biggest specimens on record have weighed as much as 1,133 kilograms (2,500 lb). The heads and forequarters are massive, and both sexes have short, curved horns, which they use in fighting for status within the herd and for defense.


Bison are herbivores, grazing on the grasses and sedges of the North American prairies. They eat in the morning and evening, and rest during the day. Bison mate in August and September; gestation is 285 days. A single reddish-brown calf is born the following spring, and it nurses for a year. Bison are mature at three years of age, and have a life expectancy of approximately 15 years in the wild and up to 25 years in captivity.

Juveniles are lighter in color than mature bison for the first three months of life. One very rare condition is the white buffalo, where the calf turns entirely white. White bison are considered sacred by many Native Americans.

A cowboy is an animal herder who tends cattle on ranches in North America, traditionally on horseback, and often performs a multitude of other ranch-related tasks. The historic American cowboy of the late 19th century became a figure of special significance and legend. A subtype, called a wrangler, specifically tends the horses used to work cattle. In addition to ranch work, some cowboys work for or participate in rodeos.


Cowgirls, first defined as such in the late 19th century, had a less-well documented historical role, but in the modern world have established the ability to work at virtually identical tasks and obtained considerable respect for their achievements. There are also cattle handlers in many other parts of the world, particularly South America and Australia, who perform work similar to the cowboy in their respective countries.


The cowboy has deep historic roots tracing back to Spain and the earliest settlers of the Americas. Over the centuries, differences in terrain, climate and the influence of cattle-handling traditions from multiple cultures created several distinct styles of equipment, clothing and animal handling. As the ever-practical cowboy adapted to the modern world, the cowboy's equipment and techniques also adapted to some degree, though many classic traditions are still preserved today.

The historic American cowboy of the late 19th century became a figure of special significance and legend. A subtype, called a wrangler, specifically tends the horses used to work cattle. In addition to ranch work, some cowboys work for or participate in rodeos.


Cowgirls, first defined as such in the late 19th century, had a less-well documented historical role, but in the modern world have established the ability to work at virtually identical tasks and obtained considerable respect for their achievements. There are also cattle handlers in many other parts of the world, particularly South America and Australia, who perform work similar to the cowboy in their respective countries.

Main Steel Structure hand forged, hammer struck to shape using solid steel rod. Main wire trace is heavy walled structural steel. A classic, yellow boy, lever action rifle propped against a barren pine tree, tells a story of the old West. Hand forged from solid iron, the details of the tree have been meticulously crafted by our master blacksmiths right down to the texture of the bark. The replication of the rifle is of the highest quality available, (which is non-functional). The rifle is permanently joined to the tree trunk and sandstone base, creating a piece of fine, free-standing American artwork.

Historical Origin And Design Inspiration

Whitetails communicate in many different ways including sounds, scent and marking. All whitetail deer are capable of producing audible noises, unique to each animal. Fawns release a high pitched squeal, known as a bleat, to call out to their mothers. Does also bleat, as well as grunt. Grunting produces a low, guttural sound that will attract the attention of any other deer in the area. Both does and bucks snort, a sound that often signals danger. As well as snorting, bucks also grunt at a pitch thats gets lower with maturity. Bucks are unique, however, in their grunt-snort-wheeze pattern that often shows aggression and hostility.


Antlered white-tailed deer possess many glands that allow them to produce scents, some of which are so potent they can be detected by the human nose. Three major glands are the orbital, tarsal and metatarsal glands. Orbital glands are found on the head, and scent is deposited from them by rubbing the head, often the area around the eyes, on hanging twigs. The tarsal glands are found on the lower outside of each hind leg. Scent is deposited from these glands when deer walk through and rub against vegetation. The metatarsal glands, found on the inside "knee" of each hind leg, are the most potent.


During the first year the pedicles appear on the young deer's forehead. The following year, the youngster sprouts straight, spike- like shafts, and in the third year, the first branch appears. In successive years, as the deer matures, his antlers lengthen and, in most species, he acquires additional branches. One can actually determine the age of the deer from the number of branches on his antlers, as their number increases with age.

Candelabra Light Sockets Are Solid Brass - Light Sleeves: Can Be Genuine Wax, Solid Brass, Brushed Steel Or Horn End Butts The light sockets allow up to 60 watt candelabra bulbs. The external sleeve and base of each light socket is solid brass and sets on a mounted ball that can be adjusted vertically. This socket size allows for a wide choice of long life bulbs. You may also choose patina steel sleeves or antler ends. Many other sizes and styles of light bulbs and sockets are available. All Meet codes world wide 220 or 115 simply specify when ordering all are U. L. Certified


The Steel Structure Keeps You Safe. For each chandelier we construct an internal frame of 3/8" to 1" diameter steel that is hand forged and hammer struck to shape. This frame strengthens the structure of the chandelier, conceals all wiring inside and also has the mounting point for the steel 900 pound test chain. You can then connect the chain directly to your solid beam or ceiling application. This allows for the weight of the antler chandelier to be on the steel frame not the unstable antler bone structure. This type of frame and hanging application also allows for the use of a (customer supplied) chandelier remote winch that allows you to remotely raise and lower your chandelier for service and maintenance.


All Antlers Offered By SAF Are Natural AA Grade, first quality and gathered from the Great Northwoods immediately after they have been naturally shed (not left through a winter or eaten by rodents then body puttied back to shape). We never use seconds, fake or faux antlers of any kind. We use antlers from the great American Northwoods region because the calcium deposits are abundant and results in higher quality more structural antlers.


All Antlers Offered By SAF Are Wired Internally And U.L. Listed. Using a steel central wire enclosure that is attached to the steel main structure we secure each antler end. We then bore through each lighted horn to run our wiring internally. All SAF lighting is hipot tested according to the rigorous rules and guide lines of Underwriters Laboratories. After passing this test they may carry a UL seal of approval. These seals are recognized by building code inspectors the world over.

All Antler Chandeliers Are Not Made Equal - Lets Compare

Many Makers Of Antler Chandeliers Simply Use Sheet Rock Screws, glue and body putty to join the antlers together and form the chandelier. They then attach a chain to the top horn or wrap several horns with chain usually with a Home Depot chain and canopy meant for a simple lighter weight light fixture. It has been proven that this type of structure will not hold over time because as antlers age they become brittle and less structural. The consequences of this method are unpredictable and dangerous.


Many Makers Of Antler Chandeliers Simply Use Body Putty and stain to hide the wiring on top of the horns. This widely used method is less labor intensive however unsightly if looking from above. Also this method over time will usually come apart and the wires will become exposed. The consequences of this method are unpredictable and sometimes uninsurable.

Historical Origin And Design Inspiration

The Château de Sedan is a castle situated in Sedan, France, on a headland on the border of Meuse, flanked by the rivers Bièvre and Vra, in the Ardennes dâpartement of France. It is a grand fortress of medieval European stock, covering an area of 35,000 m2 in its seven floors. Around 1424, Évrard de la Marck built a manor with two twin towers around a church over a period of six years. When Evrard died in 1440, his son Jean de la Marck began reinforcing the fortress, but it was Robert II de la Marck, the grandson of Jean, who finished the most important work. In 1530, the fortifications of the manor were modernised by the construction of a circular boulevard and terraces with canons, thickening the 4.5m curtain wall by an additional 26m. The bastions were added during the course of the next century, but were eventually dynamited at the end of the 19th century.


The Teton Range is a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains in North America. A north-south range, it is on the Wyoming side of the state's border with Idaho, just south of Yellowstone National Park. Early French voyageurs gave the name "les Trois Tâtons" (the three breasts). Between six and nine million years ago, stretching and thinning of the Earth's crust caused movement along the Teton fault. The west block along the fault line was pushed upwards to form the Teton Range, thereby creating the youngest range of the Rocky Mountains. The fault's east block fell downwards to form the valley called Jackson Hole.


This ancient magma has manifested itself as noticeable black dikes of diabase rock, visible on the southwest face of Mount Moran and on the Grand Teton. Erosion and uplift have exposed the granite now visible today. One reason the Tetons are famous is because of their great elevation above their base. Unlike most mountain ranges the Tetons lack foothills, or lower peaks which can obscure the view. As such, the Tetons rise sharply from 5,000 to nearly 7,000 feet above the surrounding terrain; the view is especially dramatic from Jackson Hole. Jackson Hole and the Tetons have been the setting for a number of prominent films.

Historical Origin And Design Inspiration

The moose (North America) or elk (Europe), Alces alces, is the largest extant species in the deer family. Moose are distinguished by the palmate antlers of the males; other members of the family have antlers with a "twig-like" configuration. The animal bearing the scientific name Alces alces is known in Europe as elk and in North America as moose. The name elk is connected with several earlier European variants"”Latin: alces, Old Norse: elgr, Scandinavian: elg, and German: Elch"”all of which refer to this animal.


Confusingly, the word elk in North America refers to the second largest deer species, Cervus canadensis, also known as the wapiti. Early European explorers in North America, who were familiar with the closely related but smaller red deer of Central and Western Europe, believed that the much larger North American animal looked more like the European elk (i.e. moose), so they named it elk. The word moose is derived from the Algonquian Eastern Abnaki name moz, which loosely translates to "twig eater".


Antlers A full grown bull from British Columbia with early (May) antlers The male's antlers grow as cylindrical beams projecting on each side of the head at right angles to the midline of the skull, and then fork. The lower prong of this fork may be either simple, or divided into two or three tines, with some flattening. In the North Siberian elk (A. a. bedfordiae), the posterior division of the main fork divides into three tines, with no distinct flattening. In the common elk (A. a. alces) this branch usually expands into a broad palmation, with one large tine at the base, and a number of smaller snags on the free border. There is, however, a Scandinavian breed of the common elk in which the antlers are simpler, and recall those of the East Siberian animals. The palmation appears to be more marked in North American moose (Alces alces americanus) than in the typical Scandinavian elk.


The male will drop its antlers after the mating season and conserve energy for the winter. A new set of antlers will then regrow in the spring. Antlers take three to five months to fully develop, making them one of the fastest growing animal organs. They initially have a layer of skin called felt which is shed once the antlers become fully grown. Immature bulls may not shed their antlers for the winter, but retain them until the following spring.


If a bull moose is castrated, either by accidental or chemical means, he will quickly shed his current set of antlers and then immediately begin to grow a new set of misshapen and deformed antlers that he will wear the rest of his life without ever shedding again. The distinctive looking appendages (often referred to as "devil's antlers") are the source of several myths and legends among many groups of Inuit as well as several other tribes of indigenous peoples of North America.

Candelabra Light Sockets Are Solid Brass - Light Sleeves: Can Be Genuine Wax, Solid Brass, Brushed Steel Or Horn End Butts The light sockets allow up to 60 watt candelabra bulbs. The external sleeve and base of each light socket is solid brass and sets on a mounted ball that can be adjusted vertically. This socket size allows for a wide choice of long life bulbs. You may also choose patina steel sleeves or antler ends. Many other sizes and styles of light bulbs and sockets are available. All Meet codes world wide 220 or 115 simply specify when ordering all are U. L. Certified


The Steel Structure Keeps You Safe. For each chandelier we construct an internal frame of 3/8" to 1" diameter steel that is hand forged and hammer struck to shape. This frame strengthens the structure of the chandelier, conceals all wiring inside and also has the mounting point for the steel 900 pound test chain. You can then connect the chain directly to your solid beam or ceiling application. This allows for the weight of the antler chandelier to be on the steel frame not the unstable antler bone structure. This type of frame and hanging application also allows for the use of a (customer supplied) chandelier remote winch that allows you to remotely raise and lower your chandelier for service and maintenance.


All Antlers Offered By SAF Are Natural AA Grade, first quality and gathered from the Great Northwoods immediately after they have been naturally shed (not left through a winter or eaten by rodents then body puttied back to shape). We never use seconds, fake or faux antlers of any kind. We use antlers from the great American Northwoods region because the calcium deposits are abundant and results in higher quality more structural antlers.


All Antlers Offered By SAF Are Wired Internally And U.L. Listed. Using a steel central wire enclosure that is attached to the steel main structure we secure each antler end. We then bore through each lighted horn to run our wiring internally. All SAF lighting is hipot tested according to the rigorous rules and guide lines of Underwriters Laboratories. After passing this test they may carry a UL seal of approval. These seals are recognized by building code inspectors the world over.

Many Makers Of Antler Chandeliers Simply Use Sheet Rock Screws, glue and body putty to join the antlers together and form the chandelier. They then attach a chain to the top horn or wrap several horns with chain usually with a Home Depot chain and canopy meant for a simple lighter weight light fixture. It has been proven that this type of structure will not hold over time because as antlers age they become brittle and less structural. The consequences of this method are unpredictable and dangerous.

Historical Origin And Design Inspiration

Whitetails communicate in many different ways including sounds, scent and marking. All whitetail deer are capable of producing audible noises, unique to each animal. Fawns release a high pitched squeal, known as a bleat, to call out to their mothers. Does also bleat, as well as grunt. Grunting produces a low, guttural sound that will attract the attention of any other deer in the area. Both does and bucks snort, a sound that often signals danger. As well as snorting, bucks also grunt at a pitch thats gets lower with maturity. Bucks are unique, however, in their grunt-snort-wheeze pattern that often shows aggression and hostility.


Antlered white-tailed deer possess many glands that allow them to produce scents, some of which are so potent they can be detected by the human nose. Three major glands are the orbital, tarsal and metatarsal glands. Orbital glands are found on the head, and scent is deposited from them by rubbing the head, often the area around the eyes, on hanging twigs. The tarsal glands are found on the lower outside of each hind leg. Scent is deposited from these glands when deer walk through and rub against vegetation. The metatarsal glands, found on the inside "knee" of each hind leg, are the most potent.


During the first year the pedicles appear on the young deer's forehead. The following year, the youngster sprouts straight, spike- like shafts, and in the third year, the first branch appears. In successive years, as the deer matures, his antlers lengthen and, in most species, he acquires additional branches. One can actually determine the age of the deer from the number of branches on his antlers, as their number increases with age.

Historical Origin And Design Inspiration

The moose (North America) or elk (Europe), Alces alces, is the largest extant species in the deer family. Moose are distinguished by the palmate antlers of the males; other members of the family have antlers with a "twig-like" configuration. The animal bearing the scientific name Alces alces is known in Europe as elk and in North America as moose. The name elk is connected with several earlier European variants"”Latin: alces, Old Norse: elgr, Scandinavian: elg, and German: Elch"”all of which refer to this animal.


Confusingly, the word elk in North America refers to the second largest deer species, Cervus canadensis, also known as the wapiti. Early European explorers in North America, who were familiar with the closely related but smaller red deer of Central and Western Europe, believed that the much larger North American animal looked more like the European elk (i.e. moose), so they named it elk. The word moose is derived from the Algonquian Eastern Abnaki name moz, which loosely translates to "twig eater".


Antlers A full grown bull from British Columbia with early (May) antlers The male's antlers grow as cylindrical beams projecting on each side of the head at right angles to the midline of the skull, and then fork. The lower prong of this fork may be either simple, or divided into two or three tines, with some flattening. In the North Siberian elk (A. a. bedfordiae), the posterior division of the main fork divides into three tines, with no distinct flattening. In the common elk (A. a. alces) this branch usually expands into a broad palmation, with one large tine at the base, and a number of smaller snags on the free border. There is, however, a Scandinavian breed of the common elk in which the antlers are simpler, and recall those of the East Siberian animals. The palmation appears to be more marked in North American moose (Alces alces americanus) than in the typical Scandinavian elk.


The male will drop its antlers after the mating season and conserve energy for the winter. A new set of antlers will then regrow in the spring. Antlers take three to five months to fully develop, making them one of the fastest growing animal organs. They initially have a layer of skin called felt which is shed once the antlers become fully grown. Immature bulls may not shed their antlers for the winter, but retain them until the following spring.


If a bull moose is castrated, either by accidental or chemical means, he will quickly shed his current set of antlers and then immediately begin to grow a new set of misshapen and deformed antlers that he will wear the rest of his life without ever shedding again. The distinctive looking appendages (often referred to as "devil's antlers") are the source of several myths and legends among many groups of Inuit as well as several other tribes of indigenous peoples of North America.

The external sleeve and base of each light socket is solid brass and sets on a mounted ball that can be adjusted vertically. This socket size allows for a wide choice of long life bulbs. You may also choose patina steel sleeves or antler ends. Many other sizes and styles of light bulbs and sockets are available. The Steel Structure Keeps You Safe. For each chandelier we construct an internal frame of 3/8" to 1" diameter steel that is hand forged and hammer struck to shape. This frame strengthens the structure of the chandelier, conceals all wiring inside and also has the mounting point for the steel 900 pound test chain. You can then connect the chain directly to your solid beam or ceiling application. This allows for the weight of the antler chandelier to be on the steel frame not the unstable antler bone structure. This type of frame and hanging application also allows for the use of a (customer supplied) chandelier remote winch that allows you to remotely raise and lower your chandelier for service and maintenance.


All Antlers Offered By SAF Are Natural AA Grade, first quality and gathered from the Great Northwoods immediately after they have been naturally shed (not left through a winter or eaten by rodents then body puttied back to shape). We never use seconds, fake or faux antlers of any kind. We use antlers from the great American Northwoods region because the calcium deposits are abundant and results in higher quality more structural antlers.


All Antlers Offered By SAF Are Wired Internally And U.L. Listed. Using a steel central wire enclosure that is attached to the steel main structure we secure each antler end. We then bore through each lighted horn to run our wiring internally. All SAF lighting is hipot tested according to the rigorous rules and guide lines of Underwriters Laboratories. After passing this test they may carry a UL seal of approval. These seals are recognized by building code inspectors the world over.

Historical Origin And Design Inspiration

Whitetails communicate in many different ways including sounds, scent and marking. All whitetail deer are capable of producing audible noises, unique to each animal. Fawns release a high pitched squeal, known as a bleat, to call out to their mothers. Does also bleat, as well as grunt. Grunting produces a low, guttural sound that will attract the attention of any other deer in the area. Both does and bucks snort, a sound that often signals danger. As well as snorting, bucks also grunt at a pitch thats gets lower with maturity. Bucks are unique, however, in their grunt-snort-wheeze pattern that often shows aggression and hostility.


Antlered white-tailed deer possess many glands that allow them to produce scents, some of which are so potent they can be detected by the human nose. Three major glands are the orbital, tarsal and metatarsal glands. Orbital glands are found on the head, and scent is deposited from them by rubbing the head, often the area around the eyes, on hanging twigs. The tarsal glands are found on the lower outside of each hind leg. Scent is deposited from these glands when deer walk through and rub against vegetation. The metatarsal glands, found on the inside "knee" of each hind leg, are the most potent.


During the first year the pedicles appear on the young deer's forehead. The following year, the youngster sprouts straight, spike- like shafts, and in the third year, the first branch appears. In successive years, as the deer matures, his antlers lengthen and, in most species, he acquires additional branches. One can actually determine the age of the deer from the number of branches on his antlers, as their number increases with age.

Antlered white-tailed deer possess many glands that allow them to produce scents, some of which are so potent they can be detected by the human nose. Three major glands are the orbital, tarsal and metatarsal glands. Orbital glands are found on the head, and scent is deposited from them by rubbing the head, often the area around the eyes, on hanging twigs. The tarsal glands are found on the lower outside of each hind leg. Scent is deposited from these glands when deer walk through and rub against vegetation. The metatarsal glands, found on the inside "knee" of each hind leg, are the most potent.


During the first year the pedicles appear on the young deer's forehead. The following year, the youngster sprouts straight, spike- like shafts, and in the third year, the first branch appears. In successive years, as the deer matures, his antlers lengthen and, in most species, he acquires additional branches. One can actually determine the age of the deer from the number of branches on his antlers, as their number increases with age.

Candelabra Light Sockets Are Solid Brass - Light Sleeves: Can Be Genuine Wax, Solid Brass, Brushed Steel Or Horn End Butts The light sockets allow up to 60 watt candelabra bulbs. The external sleeve and base of each light socket is solid brass and sets on a mounted ball that can be adjusted vertically. This socket size allows for a wide choice of long life bulbs. You may also choose patina steel sleeves or antler ends. Many other sizes and styles of light bulbs and sockets are available. The Steel Structure Keeps You Safe. For each chandelier we construct an internal frame of 3/8" to 1" diameter steel that is hand forged and hammer struck to shape. This frame strengthens the structure of the chandelier, conceals all wiring inside and also has the mounting point for the steel 900 pound test chain. You can then connect the chain directly to your solid beam or ceiling application. This allows for the weight of the antler chandelier to be on the steel frame not the unstable antler bone structure. This type of frame and hanging application also allows for the use of a (customer supplied) chandelier remote winch that allows you to remotely raise and lower your chandelier for service and maintenance.


All Antlers Offered By SAF Are Natural AA Grade, first quality and gathered from the Great Northwoods immediately after they have been naturally shed (not left through a winter or eaten by rodents then body puttied back to shape). We never use seconds, fake or faux antlers of any kind. We use antlers from the great American Northwoods region because the calcium deposits are abundant and results in higher quality more structural antlers.

Historical Origin And Design Inspiration

Whitetails communicate in many different ways including sounds, scent and marking. All whitetail deer are capable of producing audible noises, unique to each animal. Fawns release a high pitched squeal, known as a bleat, to call out to their mothers. Does also bleat, as well as grunt. Grunting produces a low, guttural sound that will attract the attention of any other deer in the area. Both does and bucks snort, a sound that often signals danger. As well as snorting, bucks also grunt at a pitch thats gets lower with maturity. Bucks are unique, however, in their grunt-snort-wheeze pattern that often shows aggression and hostility.

This lighting design depicts a scene from the California Gold Rush. A lone miner and his pack mule travel though the mountains, in hopes of striking it rich. One can imagine how it must have been for these early pioneers. The spell of gold fever compelled many to journey through brutally harsh and yet magnificently beautiful territories, such as Mount Zion and Sedona. Such beauty inspired the remarkable application of color for this piece of artwork. The hand forged iron, silhouettes and hand hammered, copper shade are finished with various patinas in deep earth tones. The patinas are hand applied by one of our skilled artisans to create a rich and colorful piece which is mounted on a hand chiseled, red sandstone base. quarried from the cliffs of the great Navajo nation, this solid flagstone lamp is a handmade, one of a kind piece of H J Nick original art. Many of the stone pieces still show remnants of petroclifs that were left there thousands of years ago by the Navajo peoples ancestors the Anasazi and Pueblo Indians. The base is created in natural shape of the native mountains in this Arizona region and also displays the Hand forged arrow clean through.


This lamp is adorned with genuine gemstone turquoise, feathers and genuine rawhide, and is topped with a shade made of anvil forged, hand hammered real copper. This copper is solid, and has been sealed after the natural oxidation process became a blue patina.

A classic, silver engraved, lever action rifle propped against a barren pine tree, tells a story of the old West. Hand forged from solid iron, the details of the tree have been meticulously crafted by our master blacksmiths right down to the texture of the bark. Envisioning grand oak trees in the autumn with leaves turning, nature became the inspiration for these artistic lighting designs. Made of solid iron, the intricate details on the oak leaves and acorns were hand forged by one of our highly skilled master blacksmiths. The natural hues are specially blended by mixing various iron oxide patinas. The patinas are skillfully applied by hand with a mastery of shading and highlighting techniques. These specialized techniques, which are developed by our talented artisans for custom designs, make it impossible to reproduce identical finishes. So every piece of ironwork finished with a variation of patinas, is a unique piece of custom art. Patinas are cured at over 1000 degrees, creating a finish that permanently bonds with the metal. A patina will never fade, chip or crack, and will actually improve with age.
